I've never used reversal film. Is it intended only for slides and transparencies, or does it have other uses?

Yes that is what Reversal film is designed for? however the quality is of the highest resolution which means it is ideal for reproduction work and the colour version, ie Kodachrome, has a guarantee of 100 years of pigment image. In the early days organisations like National Geographic would only accept images submitted on this form of film stock, and of course Cibachrome prints made from colour reversal were the standard required for media submission
